Veteran Egyptian journalist Ibrahim Nafea dies at age of 84

Al-Ahram’s veteran journalist and former CEO Ibrahim Nafea died on Monday at the age of 84 in a hospital at Dubai.

Nafea was born in Suez in 1934 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in law in 1956 from Ain Shams university.

Nafea started his career as a reporter at Reuters news agency. He then worked as an editor at Egyptian Radio and an economy editor at the state-owned Al-Gomhoreya daily before joining Al-Ahram.

At Al-Ahram, Nafea served as the head of the economy section on Al-Ahram daily, deputy editor-in-chief, then editor-in-chief of the paper, before his appointment as CEO of the organization.

In 1985, Nafea was elected head of the Journalists’ Syndicate and won re-election more than once. Source: Ahram online
