Bryan Adams will return to Egypt despite having historical guitar defaced at customs

International rock star Bryan Adams posted a photo of his guitar that had been “graffiti-ed” with green marker by Egyptian airport customs while leaving Cairo on Friday.

Adams was in Cairo to perform at a private event.

“Airport customs graffiti on my 1957 Martin D-18 from Egypt. Back to the luthier…,” Adams posted next to the photo showing green marker on his guitar.

“We almost didn’t get the equipment into the country, and when we did it was all marked like this,” he told AFP in a Facebook message on Friday.

“There were absolutely no apologies,” he added.

The incident provoked a backlash on social backlash with people expressing shame and anger at the way that Adam’s guitar was dealt with.

Adams posted: “TO ALL MY EGYPTIAN FANS: Thank you for writing about the guitar, I really appreciate it, it will be fixed no problem. I want you all to know that I love your country and we had an amazing time there, we felt at home. The incident of defacing our instruments at airport customs is annoying, but it needed to be said. Much love to you all and look forward to bringing my family to visit you one day soon….next time no green markers please!”
