Cairo stock market cap 2% higher, EGX 30 rises in week

Egypt’s stock market made strong gains worth 12.8 billion Egyptian pounds ($724.6 million) over the past week.

Benchmark EGX 30 rose 0.62 percent, closing on Wednesday at 13,695 points.

Bourse trading in Egypt was shut on Thursday for Islamic New Year. The first day of the new Islamic calendar year is a public holiday in Egypt.

Market Capitalisation:

Market capital climbed two percent, registering 732 billion pounds, compared with 719.6 billion pounds the previous week, the Egyptian bourse said in its weekly report.

Indices

The mid- and small-cap index, EGX 70 edged higher 2.71 percent in a week closing at 763 points during Wednesday’s session; while price index, EGX 100 gained 2.41 percent closing at 1,692 points.

Turnovers

During the week, the trading volume hit around 1.703 billion securities, compared 2.415 million a week earlier. For the traded value, it reached around 5.0 billion pounds against 7.4 billion pounds a week earlier.
