China ESCEC to finalise Egypt new capital’s building works in 3 ½ years

China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) unveiled Sunday that it will complete all the building works in Egypt’s new administrative capital within a timeframe of three years and a half.

The new capital project aims to enhance relations between Egypt and China as well as providing job opportunities, said CSCEC’s chief executive officer Chang Weicai on Sunday.

“It is scheduled to move the Egyptian governmental institutions to the new capital within the second half of 2019,” Weicai added.

Located 45km (28miles) east of Cairo, the anticipated new capital city is part of the Egyptian government’s plan to expand urban areas to deal with the state’s rapid population growth and improve the nation’s infrastructure.

The new city will be a 270-square-mile hub with 21 residential districts to accommodate five million people. It will feature 1,250 mosques and churches, a 5,000-seat conference center, nearly 2,000 schools and colleges, over 600 medical facilities and a park that is projected to be the world’s largest.
