EgyptAir adds new next-generation Boeing

EgyptAir, the country’s national carrier, is set to receive on Tuesday a new Boeing passenger jet, the second in a 2016 deal to deliver nine of the aerospace company’s next-generation aircrafts.

An EgyptAir team has departed for the US city of Seattle to receive the B737-800 aircraft, state news agency MENA reported on Monday.

The plane will become the 62nd aircraft in the company’s upgraded fleet.

The new jet is part of a USD 864 million deal EgyptAir signed with Boeing in July 2016 to purchase nine of the next-generation series planes. Egypt has already received one of the jets.

The EgyptAir team will conduct final inspections of the aircraft and make a test flight before departing from Renton Municipal Airport in Seattle within days, MENA added.

The national carrier is currently carrying out a renovation plan of its fleet, now six years old and one of the most modern in the region.

The Boeing Next-Generation 737 is known for its fuel efficiency and lower maintenance and operating costs.
