Egypt’s Leather Council plans exports to record $191mn in 2016

Egyptian Leather Export Council targets boosting leather exports by around 200 million Egyptian pounds to reach 1.5 billion pounds (US$191.5 million) during 2016, Chairman Ahmed Abd-elwahab Short said Thursday.

The chairman made these remarks on the sidelines of inaugurating the 10th session of Cairo Inter Leather fair that took place at Cairo International Convention Center from to 6 March 2016. Under the auspices of Ministry of Trade and Industry, the fair was opened by Minister Tarek Qabil.

Cairo Inter leather is a trade fair that focuses on bringing together the world’s top manufacturers and exporters, to meet with eager professional visitors, buyers and decision makers from Egypt and worldwide.

There are 73 companies and factories participating in Cairo Inter leather.

Being the only leather exhibition in Egypt that is specialized in all leather industries and technologies, Cairo Inter leather presents products and services, technologies and innovations, trends and tendencies for trade markets.

Short raised the decisions made by the government and the Egyptian Central Bank (CBE) notably those that organise the importing sector, noting that they led leather industries and products to revive.

In addition, many workshops and small-sized factories that have been closed within the last five years have been reopened due to those results, the chairman clarified. Accordingly, the capacity of leather sector has been raised by 25 percent.
