Esperance de Tunis eyeing away goal against Egypt’s Ahly: Keeper Ben Chrifia

Scoring an away goal would be Esperance’s primary target in their anticipated African Champions League clash against Egypt’s Ahly, their goalkeeper Moez Ben Chrifia said on Thursday.

Ahly host Esperance at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab stadium on Saturday in the first-leg of the Champions League quarters before facing the Tunisian side away from home one week later.

“Our target will be to score against Ahly in Alexandria, whatever the result of the game,” Ben Chrifia told Tunisian newspaper Assabah.

The international keeper believes Esperance are capable of earning a “positive result” in the first leg, saying his side are fully prepared for the crunch tie.

“We are now in our top form; we just need to believe in our capabilities and our ability to overcome Ahly.”

The Tunisian champions reached the quarter-finals as Group C leaders with 12 points, three ahead of second-placed Sundowns of South Africa who won the last edition of the Champions League.

The 26-year-old admits that Ahly’s clash will be very tough, saying the Cairo giants are Esperance’s toughest opponent in their bid to win their first Champions League title since 2011.

“They are our main opponent in our bid to win the title but we are ready for any opponents as we are looking to win the title,” he added.
