German KSB to supply pumps for west Cairo and Assiut power plants

The Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) signed an agreement with the German KSB Company to establish pumps for two power plants in west Cairo and Al-Walidiyah in Assiut, at a cost of 652 million Egyptian Pounds.

Both power plants are part of existing projects that are being implemented as part of the 2012-2017 five-year plan to increase production and secure the electric feed for all usage.

Gaber El Desouky, head of EEHC, said that the total contract value for the west Cairo power plant pumps includes a foreign and a local part, worth €15 million and EGP 7 million, respectively, next to a 10% reserve to supply the necessary spare parts and implement additional works that may arise during the implementation period extending over 35 months.

As for Al-Walidiyah power plant, the value of that contract includes €15m in foreign funding and 6.9 million Egyptian pound in local fudning, similarly including 10% of additional reserves for extra works and spare parts.

El Desouky said that the projects will be implemented through a multi-process system, as the number of operations for the west Cairo power plant amounts to 16 operations, while the Assiut plant has 17 operations.

The west Cairo power plant project is scheduled to start production in December 2019, while the Assiut project will begin in January 2020.
