Elsewedy Electric Co. SAE (SWDY) announced that its subsidiary ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC for Trading & Distribution has signed a new agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) worth 2.12 billion Egyptian pounds ($120.5 million). The agreement is for linking the Borg El Arab – Marsa Matrouh 500 Kilovolt power transmission lines with a total length of 255 kilometers. The EPC contract will be implemented over a six-month period commencing from the date of signing and receipt of the project. Elsewedy Electric owns a 99.80-percent stake in Elsewedy Electric Co. for trade and distribution. More»

A delegation comprising 35 of the most prominent Egyptian investors with direct business relations with U.S. market will start Monday the 41th Door-Knocking delegation to the United States. Organised by the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AmCham) in Cairo, the delegation will start a series of meetings aimed at Building bridges of communication between the private sector in the two countries, and draw an accurate picture reflecting the reality of the development in Egypt, both in regards to economic reforms that has impact on the level of investment climate, and the prospects for future cooperation sought by Egyptian companies with their US counterparts. British officials have been informed by their Saudi counterparts that oil giant Saudi Aramco’s IPO-ARMO.SE initial public offering is likely to be delayed until 2019, the Financial Times reported.The Saudi government had targeted a market listing by the second half of 2018, but preparedness for the offering and also willingness for a simultaneous or sequential flotation on a foreign exchange had been questioned, the FT reported, citing sources. London still had a good chance to secure the listing, which would value the company at $2 trillion, but a foreign flotation would likely happen only in 2019 at the earliest, according to the FT.New York and London have been front-runners to host the company’s international flotation, alongside a Riyadh listing. Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said in an interview with CNN last week that he was concerned about the risks that Aramco would run into by choosing New York as the venue for its $100 billion market listing. The number of tourists heading to Egypt is expected to reach 12 million by the end of 2018, with an increase estimated at 40-50 percent year-on-year by the 2018/19 season, according to Hamed el-Chiaty, Chairman of Travco Group. Through number of media statements dedicated to the privately-owned media outlet of Youm7, el-Chiaty who is the head of Travco Group, one of the largest travel and tourism companies in the Middle East, asserted Egypt will see new tourists from British and Ukrainian markets. He further said other new markets will target Egypt as a touristic destination such as Latvia, Hungry and Lithuania, noting that Egypt’s participation in the recently-held ITB Berlin will yield positive results. He explained that charter flights will be operated from these markets to Egypt’s tourist cities and expects these markets will export big numbers of tourists in the short term future. Chiaty expected the number of tourists to reach 12 million by the end of 2018, noting that it is necessary that authorities work to improve services rendered to tourists and enhance the capacities of workers in the tourism sector. He also pointed out that the importance of the role of the Ministry of Tourism in tightening monitoring on hotels, to measure the quality of services provided to tourists, and to impose fines when there is negligence. Egypt’s tourism sector, representing approximately 12 percent of the economy, has experienced significant problems in recent years, particularly since the downing of a Russian civilian aircraft over the Sinai Peninsula in October 2015, which killed all 224 passengers on board. Egypt’s exports to Turkey increased 38.5 percent in 2017, recording $1.998 billion, compared to $1.443 billion in 2016, Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Tarek Kabil said on Sunday. on the other hand, Kabil added that the imports decreased 13.7 percent, to $2.36 billion, compared to $2.733 billion in 2016. This came with a recent report from the Egyptian Commercial Office in Istanbul on the movement of trade exchange between Egypt and Turkey during 2017. The minister added that the trade deficit between the two countries declined to $360 million with a 72 percent decrease, compared to 2016. More»

Egyptian government and its French counterpart signed 4 agreements in the fields of energy, transportation, healthcare, and SMEs worth €60 million. The Minister of Electricity  Mohamed Shaker and the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation  Sahar Nasr signed a grant agreement worth EUR 1.5 million with the French Ambassador to Cairo Stéphane Romatet and  AFD's Cairo Office Director Stéphanie Lanfranchi to enhance technical support of the energy sector, obtain optimum benefit from energy and improve energy supplies. A simplified agreement worth EUR 8 million was also signed between  Nasr, Ambassador Romatet and Lanfranchi, in presence of the Minister of Transportation  Hesham Arafat, for the rehabilitation of Al-Raml Tram in Alexandria. State-run Egypt Gas Company’s profits rose by 6 percent, registering around 25.6 million Egyptian pounds ($1.4 million) during 2017, announced financial statements on Thursday. Earlier, profits stood at 24.14 million pounds during 2016. Revenues increased to 1.76 billion pounds during last year, compared with 1.52 billion pounds a year earlier. During the nine months ended in September 2017, the company incurred losses by 17.05 percent to reach 58.98 million pounds from 50.39 million pounds during the same period in 2016. More»

Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil on Friday said that Egyptian exports to China increased last year by 60 percent hitting US$ 408 million compared to US$255 million the previous year. This was according to a report that was received by the minister on the trade exchange between the two countries. on the other hand, Egyptian imports from China went down last year to 9.5 billion dollars compared to 10.4 billion dollars in the previous year, according to the report. The decline in imports from china has lead to a deficit in the trade balance between both countries of 10.3 percent. Egypt’s petroleum and non-petroleum imports declined by $2.1 billion in 2017, recording $66.02 billion, compared to $68.14 billion in 2016, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said Thursday. Egypt’s imports of petroleum products increased in 2017 to exceed $5.22 billion, compared to $4.2 billion in 2016, the CAPMAS bulletin showed. The bulletin crude oil imports recorded $1.7 billion in 2017, compared to $1.06 billion the prior year. The bulletin added that imports of other petroleum products reached $3.49 billion, compared to $3.15 billion in 2016. Non-petroleum imports decreased to $60.8 billion in 2017, from $63.9 billion in 2016, according to CAPMAS bulletin. In the first 10 months of 2017, Egypt’s imports dropped $4.1 billion year-on-year to stand at $53.88 billion, compared to $58.04 billion in the same period of 2016. More»

Saudi Arabia’s decision to ban imports of Egyptian strawberries due to pesticide residues will be lifted within day, The Deputy of Agriculture minister said Thursday. He told Amwal Al Ghad That an official delegation visited the kingdom to review the decision. The kingdom had imposed a similar ban on Egyptian strawberries over pesticide residues in July 2017. Saudi Arabia is the largest importer of Egyptian pepper, with its imports reaching 15,000 tons out of Egypt’s total pepper exports that amounted to 23,000 tons last season. Last year, Egypt has faced a series of bans on several agricultural products, such as pepper, lettuce and onion, by Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates also on concerns over pesticide residues. The government has asked an agricultural quarantine body to advise on shipments and warn of exporters who violate agreed-upon international standards. More»
