Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum-affiliated Petroleum Gas company (Petrogas) plans to fill 3.9 million tonnes of butane gas into some 312 million cylinders within financial year 2018/2019 to meet domestic needs, the company’s head Adel al-Shuwaikh said in a statement on Wednesday. He added that his company’s planned investment will target developing production assets and increase its efficiency through a number of projects. Petroleum Minister Tarek el-Molla said that Egypt saw a stable market of petroleum products, especially butane gas cylinders, which reflects the ministry’s successful efforts to expand storage areas for butane gas, according to the statement. Molla said the petroleum sector is pressing ahead with a host of measures to increase the strategic reserves of butane gas through new projects, such as building new storage tanks and adding new production units to the existing refineries to increase production. This comes in tandem with expanding household connections to the natural gas grid in order to rationalize the consumption of butane gas and ease the burdens of the state budget, Molla added. The price of butane cylinders rose 100 percent after the government hiked fuel prices last year, currently costing LE 30, compared to 15 pounds before the rise. Despite the price increase, the government still pays a subsidy of 115  pounds per butane cylinder. More»

Egypt's Minister of Housing and Health, Ahmed Emad, stated, on Wednesday, that the ministerial Cabinet has given a direct order to sign an 30 million pounds contract with the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Trading Company to buy the missing drugs in the market and place them in the company’s pharmacies. Emad added during a press conference in the cabinet’s headquarter that there are nine medical drugs suffering from shortages, mainly psychological diseases and Parkinson disease. The importing companies have been willing to raise drugs’ prices through hiding them, he explained. Emad clarified that the missing drugs will be available in the market within one week, adding that the ministry will make a strategic stock to avoid shortages in the future. Egypt has been hit by drug shortages following reports of penicillin injections missing from shelves in December last year. There was also shortages in pharmaceutical drugs that have no alternatives. Drug shortages have been common since last year, with the government attributing it to a surge in the US dollar exchange rate, as the effective materials are bought in hard currency. More»

Airbus is set to boost production of narrowbody jets in China as it nears a new multi-billion-dollar deal to supply the world’s fastest-growing aviation market during a visit by French President Emmanuel Macron, industry sources said. The deal is expected to be unveiled together with a package of agreements coinciding with the French leader’s visit, and could include orders for around 100 jetliners, they added. The final number of jets to be sold has not been determined. China is also said to be shopping for larger jets like the A330. Airbus declined comment on Monday. Airbus and its U.S. rival Boeing compete for large-scale orders in China and such package deals are typically rolled out during major diplomatic events, but not without last-minute negotiations on the quantity and price of jets.
