Mohamed Salah only joined Liverpool during the summer but the club are already having to fend off interest in him. The Egyptian winger has scored 18 goals in 24 appearances so far this season and his performances have attracted the attention of the world's biggest club. Salah's international manager Hector Cuper has revealed that Real Madrid want to sign the former Chelsea man. “I’ve received confirmed news revealing Real Madrid’s interest in Salah, but let’s not rush things,” he told Egyptian broadcaster ON Sport TV. “To me, he is in an amazing position right now.” Liverpool spent £34million on Salah tis summer and will be in no mood to let him leave, especially as Philippe Coutinho looks likely to join Barcelona in the summer. Egypt’s dazzling forward Mohamed Salah came off the bench to score twice and lead Liverpool to a 3-0 rout of Stoke City in the Premier League on Wednesday, going two goals clear on top of the scorers’ chart. Salah replaced Dominic Solanke in the 67th minute and quickly made his mark, doubling Liverpool’s advantage with a brilliant strike 10 minutes later. He met an inviting cross from Sadio Mane, who scored a first-half opener, with a brilliant left-foot volley that left the keeper with no chance. Salah completed a personal double seven minutes from time when he robbed Stoke’s last defender and broke clear to slot home with aplomb. He took his tally to 12 Premier League goals in 14 appearances, two ahead of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. The result left Liverpool fifth on 26 points from 14 games, two behind fourth-placed Arsenal and three adrift of third-placed Chelsea as they stretched their unbeaten league run to five games. It also delighted manager Juergen Klopp, who praised Salah after the Egypt forward came off the bench in the 67th minute and showed his class with a brilliant volley followed by a clinical finish. "Thank you is all I said to Mohamed Salah, it is nice to come on in a situation like this," Klopp told the BBC. "That is a proper away game, it is a difficult place. It was very deserved and we are very happy." Mane fired Liverpool ahead with a superbly dinked finish in the 17th minute after right back Joe Gomez kept the ball in play and pulled it back for Dominic Solanke, who threaded it through to the Senegal winger. As Stoke briefly regained their composure, Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was fortunate to receive only a yellow card for a lunging tackle on the edge of his penalty area, although Klopp defended the referee's decision. "I don’t think it was lucky with Simon Mignolet, there were two defenders around the situation and he is not the last man," said the German. Mane hit the outside of the post with only goalkeeper Lee Grant to beat in the 42nd minute before Liverpool's former midfielder Joe Allen squandered two gilt-edged chances for Stoke after the break. The Wales international had a shot deflected inches wide of the far post and then volleyed over the bar from seven metres before Salah lit up the final quarter of the match. Having replaced Solanke, he made it 2-0 in the 77th minute when he hammered his volley past Grant after Mane broke down the right and delivered an inch-perfect cross. Salah got on the end of a poor back-pass six minutes later and buried the ball past Grant to delight the away fans before Stoke spurned a late chance to pull one back, when three players with only Mignolet to beat managed to miss the target. Liverpool and Egyptian star Mohamed Salah bagged a wonderful brace to inspire his side to a 3-0 home victory over Southampton and top the English Premier League scoring charts. Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in the close season, became the first Liverpool player to score nine goals in his opening 12 league games, eclipsing Fowler's tally of eight. The Egyptian put his side in front in the 31st minute before adding another goal 10 minutes later before Brazil star Coutinho scored Liverpool's third in the 68th minute. Receiving the ball from Firminho outside the area, Salah took a touch before hitting a magnificent left-footed curler that left keeper Fraser Forster with no chance to give his side the lead. Ten minutes later, Salah completed his personal brace after running in behind the Southampton defense to latch onto a silky Coutinho through ball before slotting above advancing keeper Forster from a tight angle to make it two. The ex-Basel winger, who managed to lead Egypt to the World Cup finals for the first time since 1990, was then substituted with 10 minutes left. The 25-year-old is now the Premier League top goal-scorer with nine goals in 12 games, one ahead of Machester City strike duo Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane. The former Chelsea winger, who is nominated for the 2017 African Player of the Year award, has also four UEFA Champions League goals to his name this season. More»

Egypt will kick off their World Cup preparations in December after the tournament's draw is made, Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hani Abou-Reida said on Tuesday. Egypt secured a World Cup berth for the first time since 1990 after topping qualifying Group E with 13 points, finishing ahead of Uganda on nine. The draw for the group stage of the 2018 World Cup will take place on 1 December in Moscow. "I preferred to put any plans on hold until the World Cup draw," Abou-Reida said in a TV program on Tuesday. "We will have many offers (for friendly games) after the draw and we will choose the one that best suits the national team." The EFA chief revealed that the Pharaohs had declined an offer from Russia to play a friendly during the ongoing international break. "When we received the Russian offer, our qualification was not ensured yet," he added "I preferred to turn down the offer in order not to distract the players." More»

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he sought the help of Chinese President Xi Jinping in the case of three UCLA basketball players detained in China on suspicion of shoplifting last week, and said he hoped they could come home soon. “What they did was unfortunate,” Trump told reporters in Manila. He said the trio could have faced long prison sentences, and described Xi’s response as “terrific”. “They’re working on it right now.” Trump had raised the issue with Xi during a dinner held during the U.S. leader’s Nov. 8 to 10 state visit to Beijing. Trump was in the Philippines capital for a summit of Asian leaders. “We hope everything works out,” Trump said, adding that he hoped the players could come home soon. Asked about the trio and Trump’s discussing the issue with Xi, China Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing in Beijing: “Until now, I have not received any update, so I am unable to provide any further information”. He did not elaborate. The three basketball players from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) were detained by police on Nov. 7 in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou over allegations of shoplifting and were not on the team’s return flight to the United States on Saturday. According to a senior White House official, the players had so far been given relatively light treatment as a result of Trump’s intervention. “It’s in large part because the president brought it up,” the official told Reuters. The UCLA team had been in China for a game against Georgia Tech in Shanghai on Saturday, which UCLA won 63-60. The teams had traveled to Hangzhou earlier in the week to visit the headquarters of the game’s sponsor, Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. The three students - freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill - were taken in for questioning by police about alleged shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store during the Hangzhou visit. They were released early on Wednesday, but are barred from leaving China and confined to a luxury hotel in Hangzhou pending legal proceedings, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. More»

Egypt national football team stars Mohamed Salah and Ahmed Hegazi have been included in the “best 11” players list at the 2018 World Cup qualifiers released by the Confederation of the African Football (CAF) on Thursday. Liverpool winger Salah and West Bromwich defender Hegazi were part of Egypt's squad, and helped the Pharaohs to seal an early World Cup ticket after beating Congo 2-1 in a dramatic clash in Alexandria on 8 October, in which Salah scored a brace. Already-qualified Egypt meet Ghana away from home in their last Group E match on Sunday, having earned their ticket to next year's Russia finals with one game to spare. The Pharaohs are awaiting December's 2018 World Cup draw which will determine their opponents. The best 11 list also includes Tunisian winger Ali Maaloul, who plays for Egyptian side Ahly, as well as Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Nigeria’s Victor Moses. Best 11 players at the World Cup 2018 qualifiers: Goalkeeper: Denis Onyango (Uganda - Mamelodi Sundowns) Defenders: Serge Aurier (Ivory Coast - Tottenham Hotspur), Ahmed Hegazi (Egypt - West Bromwich Albion), Leon Balogun (Nigeria - FSV Mainz), Ali Maaloul (Tunisia - Ahly) Midfielders: Victor Moses (Nigeria - Chelsea), Sadio Mane (Senegal - Liverpool), Youssef Msakni (Tunisia - Lekhwiya), Mbark Boussoufa (Morocco - Al Jazira) Strikers: Khalid Boutaib (Morocco - Yeni Malatyaspor), Mohamed Salah (Egypt - Liverpool). Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp revealed that Mohamed Salah has asked Egypt coach Hector Cuper to be rested from the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ghana next weekend. Klopp had previously said he wished his star man could take a breather, especially after a very intense month with international duties and club games. When asked by reporters on Friday if he talked to Cuper Klopp answered: “No, I didn’t speak to Egypt’s manager. Mo did it by himself. It was just common sense. They have already qualified for the World Cup." The Pharaohs have already secured their qualification to the 2018 World Cup following a 2-1 win over Congo last month courtesy to a heroic brace from Salah. The 25-year old winger has been initially included in Egypt's squad for Ghana game on 12 November in Accra but has been dropped later and replaced by Saudi-based winger Mahmoud "Shikbala" Abdel-Razeq. “I think they had planned two games, but one got cancelled so now it’s just one game. It’s a perfect situation for Mo. He can have this little break,” Klopp added. Salah, who is Liverpool's top scorer in all competitions with 10 goals, endured an intense start of the season as he has started 15 of the Reds 17 matches in all competitions so far and has been a permanent feature for Egypt during the World Cup qualifiers. He is still expected to play against West Ham on Saturday before enjoying his break. More»

Mohammed Salah will miss Egypt’s final World Cup qualifier against Ghana this month to focus on Liverpool’s domestic and European campaigns, the Egyptian soccer federation said Thursday. Egypt coach Hector Cuper has instead called up Mahmoud Abdel-Razeq, better known by his nickname Sheekabala, in Salah’s place. It is the first call up for the moody striker since 2014 and appears to be a reward for his impressive form this season at Saudi club al-Raed. The 31-year-old Sheekabala’s troubles on and off the field have reduced a player who once promised so much to a journeyman plagued by injuries while earning wages playing for clubs in Greece, Portugal, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. Egypt has already qualified for the World Cup in Russia, finishing at the top of Group E ahead of Uganda, Ghana and the Republic of Congo. But the Nov. 12 match against Ghana could be a valuable test for how the team performs without Salah, who has five of the seven goals scored by the team and ensured qualification with a game to spare with a penalty strike in injury time against the Republic of Congo on Oct. 8. Cuper has been widely criticized in Egypt for his reliance on the Liverpool striker, with the media mockingly dubbing the Argentine’s strategy to be simply “pass it to Salah.” A win over Ghana without Salah could give the Pharaohs a much need boost, allowing other strikers, including Sheekabala, to shine. Salah could also use the rest. Liverpool is in sixth place in the Premier League with 16 points, nine adrift of leader Manchester City and only ahead of Burnley on goal difference. Its European campaign is going much better with Liverpool now at the top of its Champions League group after four matches. Egypt lost to Ghana 6-1 when the two last met in the west African nation, a defeat that wrecked Egypt’s chances of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. More»

Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Egypt's Mohamed Salah have made the 30-man shortlist for the African Player of the Year award as well as Naby Keita, who will join the club next summer. The Confederation of African Football revealed its shortlist on Wednesday but there is no place among the nominees for Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, who won the prestigious award in 2016 after a fine year with Leicester. Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has also been nominated for the award, along with Premier League stars Eric Bailly and Christian Atsu. ll but seven of the nominees play their football in Europe, with 44-year-old Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary being one of the stand-out inclusions. Veteran goalkeeper El Hadary currently plies his trade for Al-Taawoun in Saudi Arabia. Despite being named African Player of the Year in 2016, Mahrez is nowhere to be seen among the nominees this time round after failing to produce the form that saw him remarkably guide Leicester to the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season. The winner will be announced in the Ghanaian capital of Accra on January 4, 2018. The African Player of the Year will be determined by votes from a combination of managers and technical directors from national teams, as well as members of the Caf's Technical and Development Committee and a panel of media experts.
