Samsung developing 3 Galaxy S10 models, one without in-display fingerprint scanner

The Galaxy S10, expected to be unveiled next year, will be equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner, the Korean media reports. However, Samsung is currently developing three Galaxy S10 models, which will be priced and specced differently.

While the standard Galaxy S10 and the Plus versions will include the long-rumored in-display fingerprint sensor, the basic model will come with one on the side, in the same manner as the Moto Z3 Play. The cheaper Galaxy S10 will be Samsung’s first smartphone to feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, the same source claims.

Moreover, Qualcomm is named as the main (and only) fingerprint modules supplier for the Galaxy S10. Even though the lack of an in-display fingerprint sensor is meant to be the biggest differentiator between various Galaxy S10 models, they also come with different displays and camera configurations.

The basic model is expected to sport a 5-inch display (no dual-edge design) and a single sensor main camera. The standard Galaxy S10 variant is said to feature a similar 5.8-inch display but with dual-edge design, as well as a dual-camera setup.

Last but not least, the most expensive Galaxy S10 will boast a much larger 6.44-inch display and, for the first time for Samsung, a triple-lens rear camera.

Sources familiar with Samsung’s plans claim the South Korean company hasn’t yet finalized all the specifications for the Galaxy S10 devices. Also, the decision to add a basic model to the Galaxy S10 lineup was taken very recently, so other changes might happen in the future.
