Sisi,PM tackle Cabinet programme ahead of presentation to parliament

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on Tuesday to listen to the latest details on the cabinet’s programme entitled “Beginning and Hope”, which aims to lower the budget deficit and inflation rate.

Ismail told the president that the programme focuses on providing short-term solutions to economic problems in parallel with implementing the 2030 strategy, according to a statement from the presidency.

“The government has a clear vision to deal with Egypt’s problems,” Ismail said, mentioning the importance of being completely transparent about economic and social reality.

Al-Sisi reiterated the importance of focusing on low-income earners within the government’s programme.

Ismail met with members of parliament from the Daqahleya governorate earlier on Tuesday, as part of a series of meetings with MPs across the country to present the programme before the parliament votes on it on 27 March.

He said during the meeting that there is no negligence regarding corruption and bureaucracy.

On Sunday, the prime minister revealed, for the first time, details of the programme saying it aims to lower the budget deficit and inflation rate.

Ismail said on Monday, within comments on the dismissal of former justice minister Ahmed Al-Zind, that there will be no cabinet shuffle for “now”, although it is expected that there will be a minor change in the cabinet following the presentation of the programme before the parliament.

However, in conversations conducted by Daily News Egypt with members of parliament, there is an emerging consensus inside the legislative house in favour of accepting the government’s programme, especially following praise from the president on the government’s work in a speech last month.
