Three Injured in Mahalla Clashes Between pro, Anti-Morsi Protesters

Three people were injured in clashes Thursday evening when a protest supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi was attacked in the Egyptian city of Mahalla.

The assailants, believed to be residents of the neighborhood in which the protest was held, clashed with protesters who were chanting against the military, according to state news agency MENA.

Security forces were deployed to the area, and the injured were transported to hospitals.

Supporters of Morsi, ousted by the military on 3 July amid mass protests against his rule, have been holding daily marches since their two sit-ins in Cairo and Giza were forcibly dispersed by security forces on 14 August, killing hundreds of protesters.

Some of these marches turn into clashes, as Egypt remains deeply polarised in the wake of Morsi’s ouster.
