Egyptian minister of Housing and Urban Communities Mustafa Madbouly on Thursday announced that works in 20,100 social housing units across 16 governorates are scheduled for completion at the end of 2017.
Units will be completed on 30 June in Giza and four governorates in Upper Egypt; Qena, Aswan, Minya, and Sohag, besides the two delta governorates of Menoufiya and Beheira, said Hesham Darwish, the head of construction and external relations department in the ministry.
As for border governorates, 652 units will be constructed in the Red Sea governorate, 720 in North Sinai, and 320 in South Sinai.
Moreover, construction in 9,856 other units, which is set to take place in 11 governorates, namely; Assiut, Fayoum, Luxor, Qena, Aswan, Red Sea, South Sinai, Kafr Al-Sheikh, Minya, Sohag, and Port Said, will end in September.
In February 2016, Madbouly revealed that the ministry was set to implement the 100,000 residential units project, assigned by the president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, under the broader social housing project of 2016.
