Unknown assailants fired a rocket at a police vehicle on Tuesday in the North Sinai city of Sheikh Zuweid, leaving three conscripts dead and eight others injured from the central security forces, Egypt’s interior ministry announced.
“Security forces combed the area where the incident took place and are still searching for the perpetrators of the attack,” the statement read.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
The army has been fighting a militant insurgency, mostly against the Islamic State affiliate Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, in parts of North Sinai for several years. Hundreds of troops and militants have been killed in clashes.
