There are 35 slums in Cairo, which require 500 million Egyptian pounds (US$63,8 million) to be rehabilitated, an official from Cairo government said Wednesday.
60 percent of slums in southern Cairo, where 6 million citizens reside, have been developed and rehabilitated by the governorate in cooperation with the government.
The development and rehabilitation of slums encompass re-utilizing, establishing new water, electricity, and sanitation networks, paving the roads, and ailing the existing housing units.
