Egypt’s vital waterway Suez Canal witnessed on Thursday the crossing of 54 ships at weight of 2.879 million tons.
26 ships have passed through the Suez Canal coming from the North at weight of 1.311 million tons.
The biggest ship coming from the north was Liberia’s container ship MSC Bari at weight of 158 thousand tons.
Meanwhile, the number of ships passing through the Suez Canal coming from the south hit 28 at weight of 1.568 million. The biggest ship coming from the south was Denmark’s container ship Marie Maersk at weight of 162 thousand tons.
The canal is one of Egypt’s main sources of foreign revenue. Revenues hit $438.1m in May after 1,431 vessels crossed the waterway carrying a combined cargo of 79.7 million tons.
