7 Telecom Services Exempted

Seven telecom services were exempted from the provisions of the law regulating licenses as stipulated in the Telecommunication Regulatory Law. The exemption, which came into effect yesterday, includes operators who offer mobile telecom service onboard aircrafts, reloading of Internet access in public places, telephone subscriber support service, audio-visual studios transmission via Satel, automated management of vehicles and private telecom networks designed for personal use which are not linked to the public network unless this service is set up or operated via satellites.

Satel is an ISO certified company, which has specialised in designing and manufacturing radio modems for over 25 years. This came in a decision issued by Oil and Gas Minister Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy, who is also the Board Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). The decision states that exemption from the specific licence terms shall be made following a decision by Chief Executive Officer in response to written application by the party concerned.

The applicant should establish having received a radio licence from the TRA to utilise the frequency required for the service that is requested. The applicant should also provide required documents to show that the service is among those cited in the decision, as well as bill payment documentation.
