Egypt’s Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) plans to expand its client base under upcoming amendments to the SME law. The changes are expected to redefine medium enterprises up to 400 million Egyptian pounds and small enterprises up to 100 million Egyptian pounds, with implementation scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
Mohamed Osama, Head of Small and Medium Enterprise Finance Central Sector at MSMEDA, made the remarks on Saturday during the fourth Egyptian Women’s Summit.
MSMEDA also provides financing through direct loans of up to 60 million Egyptian pounds, as well as through intermediary banks, leasing, and commercial installment companies, with funding starting from 10,000 Egyptian pounds. Clients must have a project location and apply through one of MSMEDA’s 33 branches nationwide.
Osama added that MSMEDA provides unique support for entrepreneurs with little or no experience, including recent graduates and business owners who have ideas but have not yet sought financing. The agency starts “from zero,” offering non-financial services such as assistance in obtaining commercial registration, tax cards, and business licenses, alongside training and feasibility study support for industrial and productive projects.
