Egypt to digitise 2026–2030 labour union elections

Egypt’s Labour Minister Mohamed Gobran said on Wednesday the country will launch an electronic programme to manage the 2026–2030 labour union elections, in cooperation with local IT firm eSpace.

The programme will serve as a national database to oversee the electoral process, Gobran said after meeting eSpace’s chairman, Youssef Ali. The company specialises in software development, cloud computing and cybersecurity.

Gobran said the move is part of a broader effort to modernise Egypt’s labour union system. In August, he issued a ministerial decree No. 133 of 2025 to update the databases of all three levels of trade unions, aiming to ensure democratic elections and strengthen workers’ organisations so they can defend rights, improve productivity and contribute to development.
