Abu Dhabi Ports to run new Egypt’s Safaga terminal
Egypt and Abu Dhabi Ports Group signed an agreement on Wednesday for the latter to operate and maintain a multipurpose terminal at Egyptian Safaga Port, according to a statement from the Egyptian Cabinet.
Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir stated that the design of the new Safaga 2 terminal allows it to manage one million containers annually and will receive seven million metric tonnes of goods.
The minister also shared that the ministry has allocated 3.6 billion Egyptian pounds ($116.7 million) towards the enhancement of Safaga port.
According to the statement, the project, which spans 810,000 square metres, will feature a dock that is 1,100 metres long and 17 metres deep.
