Adam Sandler threatens to make ‘so bad’ movie if he doesn’t win Oscar
Adam Sandler has threatened to punish people by making a “so bad on purpose” film if he does not win an Oscar for his performance in Uncut Gems.
The day after he lost out to Adam Driver at the Gotham Awards, Sandler appeared on The Howard Stern Show to promote Uncut Gems, a thriller that has been praised by critics as like “being locked inside the pinwheeling brain of a lunatic”.
Sandler – whose career has been characterised by extreme highs and lows in terms of critical reception – has earned rave reviews for his performance as a gambling addict in the movie, prompting him to quip, “That’s shocking, right?”
The actor added that it would be a “funny big thing” if he were to get an Oscar nomination, saying that he would be “there to win”.
He said: “If I don’t get it, I’m going to f***ing come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay. That’s how I get them.”
Alongside Sandler, the list of major contenders for Best Actor Oscar nominations involves Joaquin Phoenix for Joker, Driver for Marriage Story, Antonio Banderas for Pain and Glory, Robert De Niro for The Irishman and Leonardo DiCaprio for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Uncut Gems will be released in select UK cinemas and on Netflix during January 2020.
