The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced on Monday that it had approved a $22.58 million small expenditure financing facility (SEFF) to enhance project readiness and efficiency in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The funding, consisting of a $13.36 million concessional loan and a $9.22 million grant from the Asian Development Fund (ADF), will support project preparation in areas such as public transport, energy, urban development, and health.
The first project under SEFF will focus on expanding the electric bus fleet and dedicated busways in Bishkek. “This facility will ensure that ADB-financed projects respond to the needs of the country and improve access to public services for poor and vulnerable households.” said Yevgeniy Zhukov, ADB Director General for Central and West Asia .
The Kyrgyz Republic is at high risk from climate change due to its reliance on agriculture and hydropower, which are impacted by climate risks. The SEFF will support projects that address climate change through improved building energy efficiency, public transport, renewable energy, and water supply.
