ADB approves $30m for climate resilience in Nepal
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $30 million financing package to bolster climate resilience, water resource management, and livelihoods in Nepal’s Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The project aims to improve conditions in these vulnerable regions, where climate change impacts are severe due to low community coping capacities.
The financing includes a $10 million concessional loan and a $20 million grant from the Asian Development Fund, which supports the ADB’s poorest member nations.
The project will focus on sustainable water management, construction of irrigation and drinking water systems, and the introduction of conservation measures to protect landscapes from climate risks.
In addition, ADB will promote nature-based livelihoods, including the cultivation of medicinal plants and ecotourism, benefiting local farmers, small businesses, and women entrepreneurs.
An additional $2 million from the Community Resilience Partnership Program Trust Fund will finance women-led enterprises, while $1.75 million will be allocated for capacity-building initiatives.
