ADB grants $1.8m for urban development project in Laos

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved over $1.8 million to support an urban development project in Vangvieng, Laos. The project aims to make Vangvieng a more attractive destination for tourists and boost the country’s economy.

The project will involve upgrading 11 roads, covering a total distance of 5.3 kilometres. Construction is expected to commence in November 2024 and be completed within 15 months.

The improvements will include upgrading road surfaces, drainage systems, and lighting, as well as planting trees along sidewalks. These enhancements aim to beautify the town and create a more pleasant environment for visitors.

By improving infrastructure, Vangvieng aims to attract tourists who are willing to spend more, generating additional revenue for the local economy. This project is expected to boost both domestic and international tourism in the area.
