ADB urges action on digital divide in Asia-Pacific

Digitalisation can help reduce economic inequality in Asia and the Pacific, but governments must address digital gaps in infrastructure, access, and skills, said a new report by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday.

While digital development in Asia and the Pacific has advanced rapidly compared to other regions, there is still a significant urban-rural divide in internet usage. According to the Asian Development Policy Report 2025, urban areas have a 13 per cent higher internet usage rate than rural areas in the region.

Urban areas have 38 per cent faster mobile internet download speeds compared to rural areas. Studies show that many developing economies in Asia and the Pacific have low digital inclusion and skill levels.
