Eng. Adel Hussein, Head of the Department of Public Utilities at the New Urban Communities Authority, stated that transferring the supervision on the department from the Authority to the New Ministry of Public Utilities will not result in any significant difference. However, he advocates this transfer given that it will lead to greater coordination with the agencies responsible for providing utilities in Egypt.
He explained that the new ministry will include all the ageىcies and departments that have to do with utilities, which would allow them to form one entity and provide better and comprehensive services. He also noted that the multiplicity of the departments which are concerned with the same job have led to squandering public money in many project during the previous years.
Hussein pointed out that this issue has not been officially discussed yet, expecting that the employees will be transferred to the Ministry, while some of them will remain at the Authority to establish coordination between the two sides to discuss the ongoing projects, including Social Housing and Bayt Al Watan.
Moreover, the affiliation of the department of Public Utilities to the new ministry will not affect the New Urban Communities Authority in any way, given that the Authority will determine the required utilities based on the nature of each project.
