AfDB approves €6m to advance Burkina Faso solar project

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a €6 million concessional financing package to support the completion of Burkina Faso’s Dédougou solar power project.

The 18-megawatt plant, part of the Desert-to-Power initiative, aims to boost energy security and diversify the country’s energy mix.

The project, which faced delays due to Covid-19-related cost escalations, received financing under SEFA’s Covid-19 IPP Relief Programme, including a €2.5 million senior loan and a €3.5 million reimbursable grant.

Additional funding from the Dutch FMO bank will support project operations. The project, expected to contribute to national electrification, aligns with the broader goal of generating 10 gigawatts of solar power across the Sahel by 2030.
