Germany on Thursday summoned the Egyptian ambassador over the deadly crackdown on protest camps of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi, a foreign ministry spokeswoman said.
“On the orders of Foreign Minister (Guido) Westerwelle, the ambassador was told the position of the German government in no uncertain terms,” she said.
Westerwelle on Wednesday urged all sides to renounce violence and return immediately to negotiations to resolve the conflict that has cost the lives of at least 464 people, according to the Egyptian government.
