Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries’s 39th edition will be celebrating the career of iconic Egyptian actor, Mahmoud Morsi, the festival’s organizers announced in a press release on Sunday.
This year’s edition of the festival, which will be taking place from October 3 to 8, will mark Morsi’s 100th birthday, and will be celebrating his most notable works, through film screenings and talks.
The late actor’s son, Alaa Mahmoud Morsi will be attending the opening ceremony and will receive the festival’s honorary shield.
Morsi, born in 1923 in Alexandria, has starred in many classic films, including The Last Night in 1964, A Taste of Fear in 1969, The Sons of Silence in 1974, and The Sad Night Bird in 1977.
A biography about Morsi is currently being written by critic Walid Seif, will be featured at the festival.
Alexandria Film Festival’s last year edition showcased 77 films from 29 countries in its Long and Short Narrative competitions, as well as a parallel programme for comedy films named after actor Mahmoud Hemeida.
The festival is organized by the Egyptian Association of Cinema Authors and Critics, headed by its president, El-Amir Abaza, and sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism, and the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
