The Egyptian Minister of Culture, Nevine El-Kilany met with Ali El Haggar on Monday to discuss his collaboration in the Cairo Opera House’s upcoming concert, which aims to revive classic Egyptian songs.
The project, called 100 Years of Singing aims to bring back the traditional singing style that defined Egyptian music for a century “tarab,” said the Ministry in a statement.
“The ministry is open to all serious projects that aim to preserve our heritage and nurture emerging talents,” said El-Kilany.
El Haggar said that he aims the concert series introduces younger generations to the authentic beauty of Egyptian singing, with soulful renditions of classic songs.
The performances feature a modern arrangement by the Cairo Opera Orchestra, putting together a fusion of classic and modern sounds.
The concerts follow a recent concert series by Medhat Saleh, who revived classic songs with modern orchestral arrangements.
El Haggar has been renowned for interpretations of lyrics by iconic poets; Salah Jahin, Abdel Rahman el-Abnudi, and Sayed Hegab, collaborating with composers like Baligh Hamdi, Sayed Mekawy, and Omar Khairat.
