Egypt’s state-run Arab Contractors says it is joining forces with Orascom Construction Company (OC) to win a mandate to build the county’s first major monorail project within the upcoming period.
The country’s Housing Ministry has earlier invited local construction firms to submit their biddings in order to carry out the monorail, Mohsen Salah, AC’s chairman, told Amwal Al Ghad on Tuesday.
“Orascom had earlier submitted a full study to execute the monorail,” Salah stated, referring that the works will include changing the location of utilities and constructions as well as power plants and the installation of railway bars.
The Egyptian official further said that Arab Contractors and Orascom are set to implement the project in cooperation with Canadian Bombardier Company, at a cost exceeding $1.4 billion.
The monorail aims to link between Sixth of October City’s district with Giza, he concluded.
