Saudi Arabia’s Aramco is planning to sign a deal with Danish decarbonisation company Topsoe to build a demonstration lower-carbon hydrogen plant at the Shaybah Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) recovery plant in the Kingdom.
The new plant would use renewable electricity in electrified steam reforming of hydrocarbons to produce lower-carbon hydrogen for use in power generation, with resulting CO2 being captured.
Elena Scaltritti, CEO at Topsoe, said that the project will mark a “crucial step in the transition to a Net Zero future,” as Topsoe and Aramco aims to demonstrate an innovative solution for producing low-carbon hydrogen.
