Asian markets rise amid hopes for Russia-Ukraine peace talks

Asian markets traded mostly higher on Thursday, as investor optimism over potential Ukraine peace talks between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin outweighed worries about stronger-than-expected US inflation.

The US president stated that he anticipates meeting with the Russian president in Saudi Arabia soon to work towards resolving the three-year conflict, which has raised concerns about geopolitics and energy prices.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 climbed 1.3 per cent to close at 39,461.47. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 0.2 per cent to 21,814.37, and Shanghai’s Composite Index declined 0.4 per cent to 3,332.48.
