Asian shares hit record highs on Tuesday

Asian shares hit record highs on Tuesday as investors anticipated US large-cap earnings, while President Donald Trump’s move to raise tariffs on South Korean imports to 25 per cent drove gold and silver higher.

MSCI’s Asia-Pacific index outside Japan rose 0.9 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.7 per cent, South Korea’s KOSPI rebounded more than 2 per cent, and Chinese and Hong Kong markets edged up. Nasdaq futures were up 0.5 per cent ahead of earnings from Microsoft, Apple, and Tesla.

The US dollar fell to four-month lows, with the yen strengthening sharply, while the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield edged up to 4.2292 per cent. Worries over a potential US government shutdown added further caution.
