Bangladesh seeks more ADB aid for climate action
Bangladesh’s Minister for Environment, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, expressed the country’s anticipation for enhanced co-operation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to strengthen its climate initiatives, Xinhua reported on Monday.
In a meeting with a high-ranking ADB delegation on Sunday, Chowdhury revealed that Bangladesh is seeking $9 billion for climate action, highlighting the government’s commitment of $3.5 billion, designated for infrastructure development, disaster management, and education.
Chowdhury emphasised the importance of prioritising local initiatives to effectively tackle climate disasters.
He also underscored the need to address transboundary air pollution, which contributes to 30 per cent of Bangladesh’s air pollution.
