Bangladesh’s garment factories closed amid political crisis
Bangladesh’s garment factories remained closed on Tuesday after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country abruptly a day earlier.
The decision to keep factories shut was announced by an official from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association. The association is expected to provide further updates on the reopening of factories later in the day.
On Sunday night, four garment factories in Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, were set ablaze amid the escalating protests against the former Prime Minister. The violence has resulted in hundreds of fatalities.
