Egypt’s New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) and Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LTRA) have signed a co-operation protocol aimed to enhance urban transportation services in new cities, the Cabinet announced on Thursday.
The protocol is part of the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to support the land transport industry, through the LTRA which regulates domestic and international land transport services across the country including areas of economic and urban development.
Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir emphasised that the agreement is part of his ministry’s ongoing commitment to enhance modern public transport options for emerging urban areas, including the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and monorail systems.
Under the agreement, the NUCA is responsible for determining routes and bus lines for land transport services in new cities, connecting neighbourhoods and other cities, the statement said.
It also will be responsible for determining the number of vehicles needed, set fares, provide parking facilities, and oversee service providers to ensure compliance with contracts and regulations.
