Bitcoin slipped 0.4 per cent to $86,731.9 by 01:55 ET (05:55 GMT) on Tuesday, following two sessions of gains.
The decline came after significant transfers by the defunct Japanese exchange Mt. Gox, which has been preparing to repay creditors.
The cryptocurrency had surged earlier in the week amid investor optimism over reports suggesting US President Donald Trump may adopt a measured approach when imposing new trade tariffs on April 2.
