BOK governor: dollar-won exchange rate rises post-martial law attempt

Bank of Korea (BOK) Governor Rhee Chang Yong stated on Tuesday that the dollar-won exchange rate had increased since the Dec. 3 martial law attempt, but the market was operating normally without any crisis indicators.

The South Korean won was trading at 1,438.1 per dollar on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 0611 GMT, slightly up from its recent low of 1,442.0 following President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law announcement.
