Botas, Turkey’s energy company, is planning to establish a joint venture with Russia’s Gazprom as part of their initiative to create a natural gas hub in Turkey, according to Russia’s news agency, Tass on Sunday. This collaboration aims to set up an operational company headquartered in Istanbul.
The proposal, initially introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in October 2022, seeks to manage the gas previously transported through the Nord Stream underwater gas pipeline.
Following discussions at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, both parties have positively acknowledged Russia’s proposed roadmap for the gas hub project in Turkey.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar expressed confidence in initiating concrete work on the project soon, aiming to commence substantial groundwork and materialise the hub project in the coming months.
