Egypt’s interim President Adly Mansour met with members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) on Wednesday afternoon at the defence ministry’s headquarters in Cairo, said army spokesman Ahmed Ali.
The meeting comes a few hours after SCAF met with defence minister Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. A military source told Ahram Online that the earlier meeting was for El-Sisi to submit his resignation from the military.
El-Sisi’s resignation would be seen as the first official step towards running in Egypt’s upcoming presidential elections, slated to begin 30 March.
