Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will meet with British Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Tobias Ellwood on Thursday, Egypt’s presidential office said in a statement.
The British MP is on a three-day visit to Egypt, leading the largest British trade mission to Egypt in over ten years.
The statement said the mission will also meet with al-Sisi. The Egyptian British Business Council will also be present at the meeting.
In statements on Wednesday, the minister expressed his hope that some of the British companies accompanying him “will be able to do business here and bring their great British expertise to make this project a success.”
In a meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab on Wednesday, Ellwood urged political reform in Egypt alongside measures Egypt is taking to reform its economy.
Egypt is conducting numerous meetings with international businessmen ahead of a major economic summit it will hold in March in efforts to attract foreign investment to the country’s ailing economy.
The government has completed the proposals for 28 projects, mostly infrastructure ventures, to present to international investors at the conference.
The government is also preparing a new investment law that it says will significantly improve Egypt’s business environment.
