The Cabinet in its meeting under Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri on 14/3/2012 agreed to establish a 100-megawatt solar power station in Aswan.
The plant will cost up to 750 million dollars and will be operative by 2015/2016. In a joint press conference with Ministers of Finance and Foreign Trade and Industry after Cabinet meeting, Petroleum Minister Abdullah Ghorab said that the project will be implemented using a new technology that would save up to 150 tons of oil products, Egyptian State Information Service reported.
About 200,000 tons of carbon dioxide, otherwise emitted from traditional stations and polluting the environment, will also be spared, Ghorab added.
