Cairo governorate is currently carrying out two housing projects in two of Egypt’s poorest informal settlements; Manshiyat Naser and Al-Basatin districts, spanning over on 95 feddans.
The two projects are part of a cooperation protocol signed between Egypt’s Ministry of Housing and Egyptian Armed Forces that aims to remove slums and ease citizens’ sufferings in those areas, Hany Sheneish, head of Egypt’s housing department at Cairo governorate, said on Monday.
These housing projects are being implemented by the governorate in cooperation with different organisations, he added.
The housing projects consist of 9000 new housing units for the residents of informal settlements.
Sheneish stated that Cairo plans to accelerate the timeframe to implement the new housing projects to deliver them within less than one year instead of two.
He also referred that the governorate targets removing slums in Cairo by 2018.
