Cambodia’s garment workers get $2 monthly raise

Cambodia announced on Thursday a new monthly minimum wage of $208 for workers in the garment, footwear, and travel goods industry, effective from January 1, 2025. This represents a 1.96 per cent increase from the current rate of $204.

The National Council for Minimum Wage approved a $2 increase to the proposed monthly minimum wage. Workers in this sector will also receive fringe benefits, such as a $10 attendance bonus and a $7 transport and rent allowance.

Cambodia’s garment, footwear, and travel goods industry play a significant role in the economy, employing around 913,000 workers in 1,538 factories. In the first half of 2024, exports of these products totalled $6.24 billion, marking a 16.4 per cent growth from 2023.
