Canada’s Aton Resources Inc. plans to start Egypt’s first commercial gold production in the second half of 2026 from its Abu Marawat concession in the Eastern Desert, Egypt’s ministry of petroleum and mineral resources said on Tuesday.
The announcement followed talks between Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy and Aton Resources CEO Tonno Vahk on the sidelines of the Energy Intelligence Forum 2025.
Badawy reaffirmed the government’s support for the company’s expansion plans and underscored Egypt’s commitment to attracting mining investment and speeding up project execution.
The two sides reviewed Aton’s operational roadmap and discussed its expected contribution to boosting the country’s gold production capacity.
