CAPMAS: Egypt-Spain trade exchange hits $3m in ’24

The trade exchange between Egypt and Spain reached $3.1 billion in 2024, compared to $3.2 billion in 2023, according to the latest figures from the official statistics agency CAPMAS on Monday.

Egypt’s exports to Spain were valued at $1.5 billion in 2024, down from $1.6 billion in 2023, while Egypt’s imports from Spain amounted to $1.6 billion in 2024, up from $1.5 billion in 2023.

Top Egyptian Exports to Spain in 2024:

  1. Iron and steel – $227 million.
  2. Fertilisers – $195 million.
  3. Ready-made garments – $173 million.
  4. Vegetables and fruits – $120 million.
  5. Plastics and its products – $115 million.

Main Imports from Spain to Egypt in 2024:

  1. Copper and its products – $239 million.
  2. Fuels, mineral oils, and their products – $188 million.
  3. Pharmaceutical products – $168 million.
  4. Electrical Machinery and Equipment – $133 million.
  5. Motor vehicles and bicycles – $81 million.

The report also highlighted remittance trends, with Egyptian workers in Spain sending home $21.6 million in the fiscal year 2023/2024, compared to $18.9 million the previous year. Meanwhile, Spaniard workers in Egypt sent $4.9 million in 2023/2024, slightly down from $3.8 million in 2022/2023.

Spanish investments in Egypt amounted to $123 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, compared to $161 million in 2022/2023. On the other hand, Egyptian investments in Spain totalled $61.9 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, compared to $63 million in 2022/2023.
