CBE: Real-time gross settlement transactions hit EGP 43.6t in two months
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) reported on Monday that real-time gross settlement (RTGS) transactions totaled 43.583 trillion Egyptian pounds across 420,269 transactions during the first two months of 2025.
The system, which facilitates large-value, high-priority payments, processed 209,099 transactions valued at 20.443 trillion pounds in February.
The steady growth in RTGS transactions reflects Egypt’s accelerating shift towards digital payments, driven by government digitalisation efforts, expanding e-commerce, and financial sector advancements.
Since its launch in 2009, the RTGS system has enhanced the efficiency, speed, and security of high-value financial transactions, reducing settlement risks and strengthening financial stability. As Egypt modernises its economic and financial infrastructure, the RTGS system remains a key enabler of seamless and secure financial transactions.
Month-by-Month Breakdown:
- January: 211,170 transactions worth 23.139 trillion Egyptian pounds.
- February: 209,099 transactions worth 20.443 trillion Egyptian pounds.
